Bio-based
Interest in a bio-based economy is driven by the rapid emergence of bio-fuels and the resultant increasing demand for green raw materials.
This development is due to increased oil prices and a structural change in global energy needs as a result of the rapid growth of the Chinese and Indian economies. The energy market is placed under additional pressure by the
political instability in the Middle East, the world’s major supplier of oil. The long-running discussion about global warming resulting from the use of fossil fuels also plays a role.
