Soil, water, air, nature and landscape are common property. It is in everyone’s interest that our living environment should be sustainably managed and used. The government protects this public interest, and knowledge is needed for a sound appraisal of it. The Natural Resources research field brings socio-economic knowledge to this.
We consider the role of the government, as well as that of producers and consumers, the public and organisations. The interaction between these parties is necessary to solve problems. Our knowledge relates to a range of levels of spatial scale (enterprise, regional, national, European and global) and to the interaction between them. We address national issues within a European context, such as the EU sustainability strategy, and connect these with global targets, such as the Millennium Development Goals.
